We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Medical Coder to join your team. As a Medical Coder, you will play a crucial role in accurately assigning codes to medical diagnoses, procedures, and services. You will collaborate with healthcare professionals and ensure compliance with coding guidelines and regulations, contributing to the efficient billing and reimbursement processes.

Responsibilities:

• Assign accurate medical codes to diagnoses, procedures, and services using appropriate coding systems, such as ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS.
• Review medical records, operative reports, and other documentation to extract relevant information for coding purposes.
• Ensure coding compliance with applicable coding guidelines, regulations, and reimbursement policies, such as Medicare or insurance carrier requirements.
• Collaborate with healthcare professionals to clarify documentation or obtain additional information necessary for accurate coding.
• Resolve coding discrepancies or issues by conducting research, reviewing coding guidelines, or seeking guidance from supervisors or appropriate resources.
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of coding updates, changes, and industry trends by attending relevant training and continuing education programs.
• Participate in coding meetings, discussions, and educational sessions to enhance coding knowledge and skills.

Preferred Skills:

• Experience with coding in different healthcare settings, such as hospitals, physician practices, or ambulatory care.
• Knowledge of coding for specialized areas, such as cardiology, orthopedics, or oncology.
• Familiarity with reimbursement systems and payment methodologies, including Medicare and private insurance.
• Understanding of medical billing processes and revenue cycle management.
• Knowledge of coding audits and compliance programs.

Qualifications

• Associate degree in Health Information Management or a related field. (Bachelor's degree preferred)
• years of professional experience as a Medical Coder or in a similar role.
• Certified Professional Coder (CPC) credential or relevant coding certification preferred.
• Familiarity with coding guidelines and regulations, including compliance with HIPAA regulations and coding ethics.
• Proficiency in medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and disease processes.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex medical documentation and make appropriate coding decisions.
• Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to effectively collaborate with healthcare professionals and stakeholders.
• Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
• Proficiency in using electronic health records (EHR) systems and coding software.
